BOULDER, Colo. – The University of Colorado men’s lacrosse team notched another win, improving to 3-0 on the season. The Buffaloes took on the Texas Longhorns (6-1) on Kittredge Field for their home opener.
Colorado came out running after sophomore long stick midfielder Clark Salamie won the opening face-off and took it to the net, missing his shot wide. On the restart the Buffs worked the ball around and senior attackman Tyler Dougherty putting Colorado on the board 34 seconds into the game.
The Buffs continued to play fast and aggressive on defense and offense, adding two more goals in the first couple minutes of play. Texas finally settled in with a possession on offense and got on the board with their first goal of the game.

Shortly after the Longhorns’ goal, the Buffaloes answered with a goal by junior midfielder Greg Kelsic. The goal, however, was disallowed due to an offside call against the Buffs. Colorado added a few more goals before a Texas timeout to take an early 5-1 lead. The Buffaloes added one more goal before the end of the quarter, giving themselves a 6-1 lead after one.
The start of the second quarter proved to be similar to the start of the game and Colorado came out strong scoring in the first minute and 30 seconds with a goal from junior midfielder Griffin Bohn.
The Buffs extended their lead when Texas took an illegal stick penalty, giving the Buffs an opportunity to continue extending their lead. The penalty put the Longhorns down a man for three minutes and allowed CU to add three more goals before the half. The Buffs entered halftime leading 11-4.
After a slow third quarter, both teams set the scoreboard on fire in the fourth quarter. Even with a strong scoring output for Texas, it was too little too late for the Longhorns. Colorado walked away with an 18-10 victory.
The team was lead by Dougherty and sophomore midfielder Jake Lucier, who had four goals each. Senior attackman Jack Cranston added one goal and five assists, improving his point total to 20 over three games.
Colorado will be back in action on Friday Mar. 7, as they face off against Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC) rival BYU (5-1). Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Kittredge Field at CU-Boulder.
